Data released from the 2012 ICF Global Coaching Study
Lexington, Kentucky, USA – Professional coaching is a multi-billion dollar industry, according to new global research produced by the International Coach Federation. The 2012 ICF Global Coaching Study found that the estimated global revenue from coaching to be almost $2 billion ($1,979 million USD) annually. The worldwide income statistic is derived from the aggregate total of what individual coaches reported earning only from coaching.
“Impacting people around the globe in positive ways, individually and in organizations and communities of diverse composition affirms the viability and positive influence of professional coaches and coaching.” said ICF Global President, Janet M. Harvey. “This study reveals both the staying power and the potential of the profession to contribute to economic and social well-being.”
The 2012 ICF Global Coaching Study also shows that the worldwide annual revenue of the profession is expected to rise in the future. According to results the coaching profession is rapidly expanding worldwide with areas of increasing maturity and growth potential, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In addition, coaches reported that they expect to see continued increases in the number of clients they service, the number of coaching sessions they participate in, and more than 3 in 4 (76 percent) expected their annual revenues to increase over the next 12 months.
The 2012 ICF Global Coaching Study was conducted independently by the International Survey Unit of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Available in nine languages, responses were received from over 12,000 people in 117 countries.

The 2012 ICF Global Coaching Study complements ICF’s previous industry research efforts, including the ICF Global Coaching Awareness Study (2010) which demonstrated worldwide interest in professional coaching, the ICF Global Coaching Client Study (2009), which studied individuals throughout 64 countries who had experienced professional coaching and the results they achieved from it, and the ICF Global Coaching Study (2007) which created a global baseline picture of the profession.
